Welcome to Foundation Stage 2!

Your teaching staff this year are Mrs Kittridge, Miss Gaskell, and Mrs Martin.
The teaching assistants helping us with our learning this year will be Mrs. Woods, Mrs Lad, Mrs Khunti, Miss Felstead and Mrs Patel.

We are looking forward to an exciting term with some wonderful novel studies and projects ahead!

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

During the Summer Term we will be further developing our understanding of healthy eating as we explore a range of fruits and vegetables and the need for a broad and balanced diet. We will also explore how too much sugar and fatty foods can be bad for our bodies and our teeth. As we focus on our ‘building relationships’ aspect of our curriculum we will be challenged to work in guided groups to complete small projects with each of us taking on specific roles within the team!

English

In our English lessons this term, we will be exploring a range of texts from the ‘Little people, Big dreams’ series. In particular we shall be looking at Amelia Earhart and Ernest Shakleton, who are both famous explorers from the past. We will record the facts that we have learnt about these historic figures as well as sequencing their journeys. After the half term holiday, we will be introduced to the text ‘Errol’s Garden’ as we design our own dream gardens and write our own retells of the story. As we are progressing towards Year 1, we are trying to increase our writing stamina by producing longer pieces of independent work whilst applying our phase 2,3 and 4 phonics. We will be working hard to ensure that all of our writing is punctuated correctly with the use of capital letters, full stops and finger spaces between words.

Maths

In Maths this term we are continuing to embed our number knowledge by being able to verbally count beyond 20 and by knowing how to build and identify numbers beyond 20. We will understand that the quantity of a group can be changed by adding or subtracting and we will look at simple word problems and understand if we need to ‘add’ or ‘take away’ in order to find the answer, using 10 frames and a range of manipulatives to help us. We will learn how to recognise equal groups and to understand that sometimes there are things left over when we are sharing between groups.

PE

This term we will be exploring manipulation and coordination as we learn to send and recieve a variety of objets using our different body parts. We will work with others to control an object in a space and learn how to coordinate our body movements in a variety of different ways.

As we progress through our phonics scheme, children will be bringing home a range of texts with increasing challenge. Reading holds significant importance at our school, and to ensure the children have the best chances of success, we kindly request that they read for 10 minutes every night. Each child has a school reading book and reading record, where you can note down their reading progress. The more practice they have reading aloud, the better! Please make sure the children come to school prepared, with their reading record completed each day.
